Details of Siân’s up-and-coming lectures can be found on the National Gallery website.

Siân was recently asked by the National Gallery to give one of a number of Friday evening lectures in conjunction the recent exhibition Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan

In January 1490 a spectacular musical play with dancing entitled the Festa del Paradiso was performed to celebrate the wedding of Gian Galeazzo Sforza and Isabella of Aragon. Commissioned by Ludovico il Moro and staged by Leonardo da Vinci, it was inspired by the movements of the planets, a recurrent theme in many dances of the period. Siân has recently translated a vivid account of the evening's entertainments written by one of the guests, the Ferrarese ambassador Jacopo Trotti. Using this material as well as 15th century choreographic sources, the lecture and performance explore the relationship between art and dance at the court of Milan. Extracts from the play are performed by students from RADA, with a number of dance demonstrations in historical costumes especially created for the event, based on portraits such as the Lady with an Ermine and La Belle Ferronnière.

Another Dance in Art evening event has been commissioned by the gallery and will take place on February 8th 2013. With practical demonstrations, the lecture examines themes of love, courtship and marriage in the National Gallery Collection and considers the role of art and dance in the courtly celebrations and rituals of the 15th and 16th centuries.
