Picasso at Tate Modern

Wednesday 16th May 2018

This Spring sees the opening of Tate Modern’s first ever solo Picasso exhibition, reuniting over 100 paintings, sculptures, drawings from a pivotal year in his life (1932) which has been called his ‘year of wonders’. It was in this year of creative frenzy and innovation that Picasso produced some of his most famous works, from Nude Woman in a Red Armchair to Girl before a Mirror, an exciting loan from The Museum of Modern Art in New York, which hangs alongside many outstanding loans from private and public collections. Girl before a Mirror is just one of the ravishing and sensual paintings depicting Picasso’s young mistress at the time, Marie-Thérèse Walter, although portraits of his first wife Olga Khokhlova and their 11-year-old son Paulo reflect conflicts between passion, pride and loyalty.

Our all-inclusive study day is entirely on-site. The price includes refreshments, an introductory lecture, a buffet lunch and timed entry exhibition tickets.

Picasso 1932 – Love, Fame, Tragedy is one of the key exhibitions of 2018 – not to be missed!

Programme

Please meet in the Starr Foyer at Tate Modern where refreshments will be served from 10.30-11.00. Our lecture will then take place in the adjacent Starr Cinema and finish just after 12.00. We are delighted that Janeen Haythornthwaite has agreed to be our guest speaker. Janeen is a Tate lecturer and freelance art historian - some of you will have met her in 2014 when she gave us a wonderful lecture in conjunction with Late Turner: Painting Set Free and again last year when she gave a tour of the Tate for Friends of Art History in Focus.

A buffet lunch (included) will then be served in the Starr Foyer followed by timed entry tickets to see the exhibition at 1.30. Audioguide hire is not included but these can be hired for a small fee at the exhibition entrance if required.

Booking closes on 29 April and places are limited

Please do let us know on the booking form if you have any food intolerances, allergies or dietary requirements as we need to inform the catering department of these in advance. Thank you
