Director's Choice: Portraits at the Wallace Collection

Tuesday 10th September 2019

The Wallace Collection is without doubt one of the finest museums in Britain, comprising extraordinary examples of paintings, furniture, armour and objets d’art which are displayed in the elegant townhouse bequeathed to the nation by Sir Richard Wallace in 1897.

In 2016 a new director, Dr Xavier Bray, was appointed and we are delighted that he is able to join us for a private tour of the collection this September.

During the afternoon's private tour Dr Bray will focus on the subject of portraiture in the collection, including masterpieces by Frans Hals and Velázquez amongst others.  The works under discussion will be different from those which we have enjoyed on previous tours with the director.

Spaces on this event are limited, so early booking is advisable

This study day is now fully booked - please do let us know if you would like to join a waiting list in case extra spaces become available.

Please meet in the Wallace Collection Entrance Hall on the ground floor at 2.25pm. This is the main entrance of the museum, at the bottom of the staircase. Please do arrive in good time as we will be moving around the galleries, so latecomers may find it hard to find us.

After our tour, light refreshments (included) will be served in the Wallace Restaurant and Cafe. We should finish at about 4.00 or soon after, but we have the table booked for a little longer if you would like to stay on and chat further over coffee (or indeed please do leave earlier if you have a train to catch).

Lunch is not arranged but light refreshments (tea, coffee and homemade biscuits) will be served in the Wallace Restaurant and Cafe after the tour
