Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan

Thursday 15th December 2011

This will be the most complete display of Leonardo’s surviving paintings ever held, and this National Gallery exhibition will be without doubt one of the most exciting in Europe this year. Bringing together sensational international loans never before seen in the UK, it focuses on Leonardo’s career under Duke Lodovico Sforza and will include works such as ‘La Belle Ferronière’ (Musée du Louvre, Paris), the ‘Madonna Litta’ (Hermitage, Saint Petersburg), and the ‘Lady with the Ermine’ (Krakow). It also presents a newly attributed work, the ‘Salvator Mundi’, an exciting discovery which has been the subject of much speculation

Our study day includes a lecture by Siân Walters, timed entry tickets, audioguide hire and study notes. Lunch is not included but has been arranged in a delightful Italian restaurant, for those who would like to join the group.

Friends of Art History in Focus HAVE ACCESS TO PRIORITY BOOKING UNTIL SEPTEMBER 13th

Programme

Please meet at the Royal Astronomical Society at Burlington House where refreshments will be served from 10.00 in the Library on the 1st Floor. Visitors should sign in at the entrance hall which is accessible via the main entrance to the R.A.S. Our lecture will then take place in the R.A.S. Lecture Theatre at 10.30.

After lunch (optional) there will be a tour of the exhibition. We have timed entry tickets to the exhibition in the afternoon in staggered groups - I will send details of this nearer the time. Please meet at the Sainsbury Wing entrance by the information desk in the National Gallery. Lecturing is not permitted in the exhibition but I shall prepare study notes for you to use and audioguide hire is also included – there will also be a short film which you might like to see and I shall be on hand to answer questions and discuss the paintings with you discreetly. The day will finish at about 4.00. The fee will be £48.00 per person and includes coffee/tea and biscuits on arrival, an introductory slide lecture, timed entry tickets, audioguide hire and study notes.

Lunch

Please let us know if you would like to join us for lunch - there is a very reasonably-priced set menu at an Italian restaurant near the National Gallery with a choice of dishes, and payment can be made on the day.
