Picasso at Tate Britain

Friday 11th May 2012

From an early visit to London in 1919, when he worked on Diaghilev’s ballet The Three Cornered Hat, to the Guernica tour of 1938-9  and an extraordinarily successful exhibition at Tate in 1960, Picasso had a lifelong and often dramatic relationship with Britain. He also had a decisive impact on many of its most important artists, from Henry Moore to David Hockney. Tate's new exhibition explores these exciting and fascinating associations, bringing together over 60 of his works such as Weeping Woman 1937 and Man with a Clarinet 1911-12 (Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza), works which were acquired early on by important British collectors.

We are delighted that Helen Little will be joining us. Helen is the assistant curator of the exhibition and will be sharing her insights into its concept and development.

Our study day includes an introductory slide lecture in a private room at Tate Britain, coffee/tea and biscuits before the lecture, timed entry tickets, audioguide hire and study notes by Siân. Lunch is not included, but has been arranged for those who would like to join the group.

Friends of Art History in Focus HAVE ACCESS TO PRIORITY BOOKING UNTIL FEBRUARY 17th (priority booking can be accessed by logging in)

After lunch (optional) we have timed entry tickets to see the exhibition. Lecturing is not permitted inside, but I shall prepare some study notes for you and audioguide hire is also included – I shall of course be on hand to answer questions. The day will finish at about 3.30/4.00.
