Cultural Travels from Home: A Guided Tour of the Ca' Rezzonico in Venice

Wednesday 6th January 11.00am

In our new series of online webinars, we visit artists, art historians and guides in various cultural cities around the world and enjoy an hour’s guided tour, virtual museum visit or demonstration. The visits are live and interactive, allowing you to ask questions.

These webinars will enable you to gain special access to sites, studios and galleries which are either currently closed or difficult to visit whilst at the same time providing a wonderful opportunity to travel virtually from the comfort of your home, no matter your location. Our visits will also support both galleries and individuals working in the cultural sector whose activities have been affected by the current pandemic.

This week we enjoy a live, virtual guided tour of the Ca' Rezzonico in Venice in the company of one of the city's most well-known guides. This visit has been especially arranged and will be the first ever virtual tour of this kind in the museum - we are most grateful to the President and the General Secretary of the Fondazione Musei Civici Venezia for allowing us special exclusive access despite the current Italian lockdown regulations. All bookings will include a donation / "virtual entrance ticket" which will help support the museum during its closure

This magnificent Venetian palace was acquired by the wealthy banker Giambattista Rezzonico in the 18th century who redecorated it in a sumptuous fashion with works from the greatest Venetian artists of his day, such as Giambattista Tiepolo. The ballroom is a particular highlight with its majestic trompe l’oeil ceiling, and the palace also has a fine art collection including view paintings by Canaletto and Guardi, sculptures by Andrea Brustolon and exquisite pastel portraits by the female artist Rosalba Carriera. Our guided tour of the palace lasts one hour including a live Q&A session at the end.

Our events use the most up-to-date technology to provide you with the best possible virtual experience. You will feel as though you are exploring the museum yourself with the running commentary given by our guide.

This is a live webinar at 11.00am GMT and will last one hour.  Tune in from anywhere in the world to participate or enjoy a recorded version if you cannot watch live. A link to the recording will be sent soon after the end of the session, enabling you to watch on catch up later that evening or the following day.

Booking closes the day before the event is streamed. Please refer to the Further Information panel below.

If you would like to explore Venice further, Siân and Luisella will be running a 10-week course starting on 8th January 2021 including more virtual, live walks and exclusive special access to a number of the city's other museums and galleries. Further details can be found by clicking here
